With over 250kms of off road tracks, one of the best ways to explore Dirk Hartog Island is by 4WD. Homestead and camping guests are able to have their 4WD vehicles brought over to the island from Shelter Bay at Steep Point on a 36 foot barge.

As part of Dirk Hartog Island's commitment to sustainable tourism only eight 4WD's are allowed onto the island at any one time, ensuring the island remains in pristine condition.
