Lodge

Situated in the pristine World Heritage Area off the Shark Bay coast and just meters from the Shark Bay Marine Park, Dirk Hartog Island Lodge offers guests one of Australia's most unique holiday experiences.

The Lodge is located within the original limestone shearer's quarter's, built over a century ago. It offers five twin/double rooms and 2 twin rooms, all with en-suites and fully serviced on a daily basis and provides comfortable accommodation for up to 14 adults in an exclusive, yet relaxed environment.

The Lodge guests can relax in the TV room or head into the bar and billiards room to enjoy a game of pool or just unwind, all with great ocean view. Guests can also learn more about the island's unique history with a wide range of historical memorabilia located throughout the Lodge.

Enjoy an unforgettable holiday with days out fishing aboard the 'Eendracht', a 4WD adventure to the historical sites or just relax, tasting the gourmet nibbles and watching the sun set.

Solar Power and 24 hour a day Power

It's taken over 15 years to take the next step of remote living by replacing the noisy diesel powered generator with a Remote Area Power Supply solar system.  This state of the art 18kw system powers the entire Lodge facilities including all the fridges and freezers. It runs 24 hours a da, 365 days a year.  We should have done this years ago!

With the support of some very generous guests and a substantial rebate from the federal government, Tory & I have managed to install this system late last year ready for the 2011 season.

There are 72 fully tracking solar panels, 36 batteries weighing in at 120kg each, 3 inverters which provides 240v power from the batteries and several computers making up the brains.

We only need to check the batteries weekly, power consumption and power input daily.

No more fuel runs to Denham, no more oil changes every couple of weeks and the only noise produced is the sound of the water on our door step!!
