Access Via Steep Point

The island barge, “Hartog Explorer”

A landing barge is available to transfer 4WD vehicles from Steep Point to Dirk Hartog Island. The landing barge carries one vehicle and a trailer at a time and takes approximately 15 minutes to cross the waters of South Passage. Bookings are essential. Group bookings of 3 or more vehicles can book to arrive any day of the week.

The Block
West Point (‘The Block) is a renowned place to fish for local species (make sure you have a cliff gaff and plenty of lures). However, you should only fish along the island’s western coast in suitable conditions, and with an eye to your personal safety, as this is wild and rugged coastline. Before fishing, check the latest rules and regulations and comply with size, possession, season and bag limits

Urchin Point

Quion Head
Quion Head Camp Site has no facilities and is essentially a wilderness camping
experience. Look after the island while camping and it will still be in good condition the next time you visit

Sandy Point
Sandy Point Camp is located well away from the waters edge and is more suitable for a short overnight stay before heading north or south on the island.

Dampiers Landing
Dampier’s Landing has no facilities and is essentially a wilderness camping experience.

Withnell Point
Withnell Point has no facilities and is essentially a wilderness camping experience. Look after the island while camping and it will still be in good condition the next time you visit

Louisa Bay
Louisa Bay has no facilities and is essentially a wilderness camping experience. Look after the island while camping and it will still be in good condition the next time you visit

Cape Ransonnet
Cape Ransonnet has no facilities and is essentially a wilderness camping experience. Look after the island while camping and it will still be in good condition the next time you visit

Notch Point
If you visit Dirk Hartog Island National Park by private boat, Notch Point is one of three sites where you may camp overnight. Notch Point has no facilities and is essentially a wilderness camping experience.

 DHI National Park Camp Fee: $19 per adult per night & $2 per child per night.
