Dirk Hartog Mad Fish 2004 (DHMF2004) is the first annual fishing competition to be held in the waters off Dirk Hartog Island. Every week between March and October the Island's homestead and camping guests along with prearranged boat groups have the opportunity to enter the competition, the aim being to catch the biggest fish.

Each week the competitor with the largest fish will win a weekly prize which could include MadFish wines and merchandise, Halco lures, Platypus Line spools, Coco's Riverside Bar and Restaurant vouchers and Western Angler annual subscriptions.

Dirk Hartog Mad Fish 2004 aims to raise significant funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia, with 90% of all funds raised going to the RFDS and the remaining 10% being used to upgrade the Island's airstrip.

The RFDS are a not-for-profit organization which provides essential health care and medical emergency services to people who live, work and travel to the remote regions of Australia. The RFDS currently covers an area the size of Western Europe and attends to approx. 36,000 patients a year.
