General:
1.01 Dirk Hartog Mad Fish 2004 Ethos
All competitors must comply with the Island's Code of Ethics while
participating in DHMF2004.
1.02 World Heritage Fishing Regulations
All competitors must comply with the fishing regulations imposed
by the Department of Fisheries whist taking part in DHMF 2004. World
Heritage Fishing Regulations are available at the Homestead
1.03 Disclaimer
Dirk Hartog Island and DHMF 2004 accept no responsibility whatsoever
for any injury or damage caused to competitors and/or their equipment.
The safety of competitors is the responsibility of each individual
involved and Dirk Hartog Island accepts no liability.
1.04 Cooperation with Staff
All competitors must cooperate with Island/DHMF2004 staff at all
times during the competition
1.05 Entry Fee & Entitlements
All competitors must report to the Homestead before the commencement
of competition. Competitors are
required to complete the DHMF 2004 entry form and pay the entry
fee of $50 per person. DHMF 2004 will
run from March to October inclusively. One competition entry entitles
the competitor to enter any eligible
fish caught during their stay on the Island, after the completion
of paperwork and payment is received.
1.06 Junior Competitors
All competitors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent
or guardian while competing.
1.07 Competition Boundaries
Fishing is limited to the waters 10 nautical miles of the coast
of Dirk Hartog Island.
1.08 Competition Categories
All eligible fish caught (refer to 2.3) will be judged according
to their species.
1.09 Competition Prizes
Prizes will be awarded on a weekly basis to the largest fish caught
during that week. Overall prizes will be awarded at the end of the
competition and competitors will be notified. At the end of the
year participants with the largest fish in each category will be
awarded a prize. The competitor with the longest overall length
(one fish from each category + wildcard) will win the major prize.
Additional prizes will be awarded at the end of year award ceremony.
All prizes are given at the discretion of DHMF 2004 management.
2.0 Fishing:
2.1 Catches
DHMF 2004 promotes a catch and release ethos and as such all competitors
are required to abide by Department of Fisheries rules and regulations.
All catches must be measured from nose to the tip of the tail and
the fish must be measured in a natural position. The lengths of
eligible fish caught must be recorded and given to Island Staff
daily. Competitors must also comply with Dept. of Fisheries bag
limits. Any competitor exceeding bag limits will be disqualified.
2.2 Equipment
All equipment used during DHMF 2004 must be approved by Island Staff
2.3 Eligible Fish
Only fish species listed below are eligible for inclusion in DHMF
2004. All fish that are included must be
larger than the minimum/maximum length and weight set out by the
Department of Fisheries.
Competitors can enter one fish from each of the following species:
Pink Snapper, YellowFin Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Coral Trout, Tailor
and Bluebone Groper.
A 'wildcard' entry will be allowed, which, will enable competitors
to enter an additional fish, (other than
the species listed) that is of unusual size..
The lengths of the fish will be totaled, with the competitor with
the longest length winning the major prize.
2.4 Types of Fishing Allowed:
Competitors are allowed to use the following methods of fishing
during the competitors:
Land Based - beach and rock, Boat fishing.
Netting and spear fishing are not permitted.
