A big Hello from everyone at Dirk Hartog Island!!!

Dirk Hartog Island kicked off its 16th season in March!  The last two months have proven a success within the fishing aspect, where we have had several groups experience the excitement of landing marlin and sailfish aboard our 48 ft Cougar Catamaran, the Eendracht.

Sailfish caught a few weeks back

As well as the larger game fish, we have also seen large numbers of some great sized pink snapper, spanish mackeral, mulloway, bald chin gropers and red emperors.

For the past two 2 weeks we have had a young Frenchmen help out in the cooking department.  Ben has travelled all the way to Dirk Hartog Island, and will be hanging about for the next few months to help Tory cook some meals that should not be missed.  Ben is having the time of his life here and will give everyone a fight for their money at the pool table!  Watch out for the pool shark!!!

We also have Mel and Sandra from Germany who are helping out around the homestead, bringing the European style to Dirk Hartog Island.  All of our new staff are enjoying the sunshine, fishing for the first time, spending their afternoons off at the beach and getting into the swing of island life.

At last we had a sprinkle of rain on the island – much needed, but never enough!  On the whole, we have been very lucky with warm sunny days, but cool nights seem to be the norm these days so make sure you pack your ugg boots and a jacket for the boat.

As always, there has been an abundance of marine animals make appearances all over the waters we venture into.   A few weeks back, the whalesharks were cruising by the boat, taking a good look at us and hanging around for up to half an hour at a time.  The cormorants are also back into their breeding grounds, which is definately a sight to see for the bird lovers out there.  Turtles, stingrays, manta rays, shark, dolphins, crabs and a variety of bird life are also regular inhabitants of the island and the surrounding waters.

The season so far has been very busy with homestead guests and campers and bookings are strong right through until October.  The Eendracht is available for both day and overnight charters, so come and enjoy a night camping out under the stars after a hard days fishing or simply watching the sun set whilst enjoying a glass of wine on the deck.  If you would rather the do-it-yourself approach and camp beneath the stars, bring your 4WD and we can escort you back to the island by barge and leave you to explore the island on your own.

The Eendracht will be available for cruises down the Swan River and over to Carnac and Rottnest Island in Perth from the first week of November 2007 through until the end of April 2008.  What a perfect way to enjoy a day on the water with friends and family.  Get in quick as these spots fill up very quickly.

On the family front, all are travelling very well.  William has recently turned 4 and Oliver also turning 1.  Tory is still busy spending her days with the kids and helping out in the kitchen, while Kieran is spending his days out on the boat showing the guests the amazing fishing spots which make this place a must see for all!
